BACKGROUND AND CALL Kathy was raised by parents who had a heart for the world. They attended a Presbyterian Church that strengthened and encouraged that vision. In the church, and in her home, on the old family farm, missionaries and internationals were often guests. They were warm, wonderful people who stirred her heart with stories of people from all around the world, many still waiting to hear the Good News of Jesus. Kathy received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and in Nursing Education from the University of Minnesota where she was an active participant in Inver-Varsity Christian Fellowship. It was at Inter-Varsity’s Urbana Mission’s Conference and InterVarsity’s Missionary Training Camp that a call to mission became more focused and intentional. SERVICE Kathy served for seven years as a PC(USA) missionary nurse in Ethiopia. God touched her there through the ministry of African brothers from Uganda who introduced her to a deeper understanding of the Gospel and its simple message. That experience also demonstrated that God has indeed called the Global Church and not just the West to advance His Kingdom. After retuning to the US, Kathy served for 10 years as a mission coordinator in a local church. She also was part of the Advisory Committee for International Evangelism of the PC(USA), the Presbytery Mission Interpretation Team, and the New Church Development Team. In addition Kathy worked with other ecumenical mission efforts in the Twin Cities Area and was active in the organizing APMP (The Association of Presbyterian Mission Pastors). More recently, Kathy served as the Moderator for her Presbytery and Chairperson of the Presbytery Council. MINISTRY FOCUS Kathy has skills in administration and strategic planning. She is particularly interested in encouraging women of all cultures play a significant role in world evangelization and helping the local church realize its critical role in mission. In addition to her work in Ethiopia, Kathy has visited Frontier Mission work in The Balkans, Turkey, and Hungary, and North India. She works as PFF Liaison for the Balkans.
